TWO MILESTONES. ONE MOMENTOUS CELEBRATION.
GMCLA 40 / STONEWALL 50
This historic Gala concert, conducted by Interim Artistic Director Gavin Thrasher, featured more than 300 singers on the Walt Disney Concert Hall stage! During the concert, GMCLA was joined by members of nine other choruses from around the country to perform Quiet No More, co-commissioned to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Stonewall Riots.
Our special chorus guests included members from: Anna Crusis (Philadelphia), Denver Gay Men’s Chorus, Denver Women’s Chorus, New York City Gay Men’s Chorus, Palm Springs Gay Men’s Chorus, Philadelphia Gay Men’s Chorus, San Diego Women’s Chorus, Triad Pride Men’s Chorus, and Triad Pride Women’s Chorus (Greensboro, NC).
Special guest stars Chrissy Metz and Shoshana Bean helped light up the stage; Ms. Metz singing I’m Standing with You, and Ms. Bean performing She Used to be Mine, both to standing ovations.
The evening also included honoring Mr. David Mixner – a long-time and powerful ally to the LGBTQ community. It just happened to be his Birthday too – and he was serenaded by the entire assembled chorus and audience halfway through the concert!
It truly was a memorable evening 40 years in the making!
