There are many reasons why we sing with GMCLA. Here we have not only found our chosen family and sang together to lift people’s spirits, we have also gone to countless schools to bring the joy of music to kids who would not have this kind of outlet otherwise.
Our Alive Music Project (AMP) brings an anti-bullying message and music education opportunities to students in underserved areas. We share our stories of coming out, of struggles and success, to open a free discussion about diversity and acceptance.
And now, AMP has expanded to bring 12-week music education programs to schools where budget cuts have taken away arts opportunities – and juvenile detention centers where kids have virtually no opportunities for this kind of outlet for free expression.
Another key aspect of what we do is, of course, SING! Next June we will be joining the New York City Gay Men’s Chorus for a concert at the world-renowned Carnegie Hall to celebrate our 40th anniversary of both of our choruses, and the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots. To top that off, we will be performing at World Pride!
Together we can change, and even save, lives! This is why we do what we do, why we sing, why we are a part of GMCLA. Will you join our family and help us continue to spread the message of love and acceptance?
We thank you for contributing to #ThisIsWhy – and your commitment to GMCLA’s future!
