Beethoven’s 9th Symphony – with members of Vox Femina, GMCLA, Northridge Singers, and the Colburn School Orchestra
This past Sunday, April 3 2016, members of three Los Angeles choruses (Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles, Vox Femina, and the Northridge Singers) joined forces with the Colburn School Orchestra to perform a thrilling rendition of Beethoven’s timeless 9th Symphony. Maestro David Zinman conducted the performance at the Valley Performing Arts Center, a performing arts event center built five years ago on the campus of Cal State Northridge.
This collaboration, a while in the making, was the result of conversations with VPAC’s Executive Director, Thor Steingraber and the artistic directors of each organization; Iris Levine – Vox Femina, Joe Nadeau – GMCLA, and Paul Smith – Northridge Singers. The singers from each of the choruses spent weeks in preparation for this event and it all came together with orchestra and soloists over the course of six days, culminating in a stunning performance to a sold-out house. GMCLA thoroughly enjoyed this collaboration and looks forward to performing again at the Valley Performing Arts Center in the future.
